Word Search Party

Press Release

New iPhone game adds exciting multi-player twist to classic word puzzle

Stoke-on-Trent, England
8th October 2010

Lightwood Consultancy Ltd is proud to announce a fun new multi-player game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, which puts an exciting new spin on classic hidden word puzzles.

Word Search Party is the first ever competitive multi-player word search game. In addition to the challenge of finding words in a jumbled grid of letters, players face the additional challenge of having to find them more quickly than their opponents.

As well as a traditional (and relatively leisurely) "solo" mode, players can pit themselves head-to-head against a nearby friend using Bluetooth to connect two iPhones, iPads or iPod touches in a fast-action showdown.

Each word can only be found once, so it's a battle of quick thinking and nimble fingers!

In case taking on one opponent just isn't enough, the game supports Apple's new Game Center, which allows up to four players to compete at the same time over the internet. You can invite your friends or be matched against random opponents anywhere in the world.

Word Search Party is one of only a few games that allows real-time competitive play through Game Center at present, and it is the first puzzle game to do so.

A large proportion of the puzzles available in the game are based around educational content, and are organised by school subject. The app shares its resources with WordSearchParty.com - a free web site for creating printable word puzzles, which was originally designed with teachers in mind.

"When a teacher creates a new worksheet to use in a lesson, we put the same word list straight into the iPhone game", explains Lightwood's Chris Newman. "Likewise, when an iPhone user creates their own puzzle in the app, anyone can go to WordSearchParty.com and instantly make a printable puzzle using the same words".

The game is distributed as a universal binary, meaning that one download runs on both iPhone and iPad devices. It also includes high definition "retina" graphics - recognised as being sharper than the human eye can distinguish - for the latest iPhone and iPod touch devices.

The iPad version was developed with classroom use in mind, taking advantage of the large multi-touch screen so that groups of pupils can play collaboratively. Several fingers can highlight different words at the same time, without one player interfering with another's actions.

While the game was created with the educational market in mind, it's already proving popular among casual gamers and puzzle fans alike.

"We focused on creating a game which would help to build our range of educational products", said Newman, "but we've had amazing feedback from people of all ages. They just can't put it down!"

Word Search Party is available now from the iTunes App Store as a free download. Upgrades can be purchased within the app from 99c (59p).
